Some days we just don’t have the drive or energy we wish we did. As a small business owner, trying to power through those tough, low energy days can seem impossible.

Most small business owners begin their journey with an unbreakable constitution — the business ‘honeymoon phase’, so to speak. Working longer days than we thought we could, we become machines until the unforeseeable future. Then suddenly, *poof* — the coffee has resigned on us and the day’s end is nowhere in sight. As if by magic, our drive and motivation vanishes.

When the fundamental passion for your business starts to dissipate, it’s important to identify the root cause of the issue. Once you identify the root cause, it’s time to channel any additional energy that you have into implementing a breakthrough action plan. Taking action is key in creating momentum; momentum is an integral part of small business success as an owner.

Here are some action steps to help you rekindle that love for your business:

1. Take care of YOU

Am I looking after my health?

Most will be stunned to learn how much neglecting our own needs can negatively impact our health. A healthy amount of rest and a proper diet can work wonders in all areas of life.

H.A.L.T. (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired) is a great acronym to remember — use this to take a moment and check in with yourself when you’re feeling burnt out. Sometimes, all it takes is having a snack or getting some rest to give you the energy boost you need to tackle daily business challenges with a fresh perspective.

2. Build Momentum

What is one task I can start and finish, right now?

Pick a simple task you can complete. Upon completion, repeat the process. You’ll soon find yourself taking on bigger tasks you thought you’d never find time for, or get done for that matter.

3. Reset Your Goals

What are my current short-term and long-term goals?

The subtle changes in life and business can make an impact in our direction in terms of goals. Sometimes we are not aware we have newly unearthed desires, direction, and goals. Do not be afraid to rewrite those small business goals. In fact, you should revisit them often!

Owning a small business is much like life itself: it’s not always easy, and it’s not always fun. But, the work we put in can yield great rewards and personal satisfaction – making it worthwhile to push through the tough times.
