We know you’ve got a long to-do list, and taking a vacation is probably not at the top, but it should be! As it turns out, taking a vacation is one of the best things you can do for yourself, and ultimately your business. Here are some great reasons to give yourself a break and enjoy some much-needed R&R.

A Fresh Brain

Don’t worry about setting the alarm! As a small business owner you’re always working on creative solutions to new problems, and you’ve probably heard (and abide by) the phrase “sleep on it.” Getting a good night’s sleep doesn’t just improve your physical health, it actually improves your mental well-being and helps you think more clearly. According to health.com, a good night’s sleep will also sharpen your memory and boost creativity.

Creative Inspiration

Taking a break and getting some much-needed rest can allow you to see your business from a fresh perspective. On your vacation you will likely encounter new experiences, which can inspire an idea you can try for your business. According to Psychology Today, novel experiences actually promote creativity! Being in a new situation allows you to think differently than you ever have before, and increased creativity will also help you hone your problem-solving skills back at work.

Clarify Your Mind

The day-to-day tasks you encounter as a small business owner are important, but they also create a lot of “noise.” Stepping away from the minutiae of the day-to-day will allow you to focus on the bigger picture. There’s a reason we have our best thoughts in the shower. When you’re relaxed and not focusing on the problem, things tend to come together. Taking a vacation is a great way to de-clutter your mind so you can get back to work fresh and focused.

It can feel difficult to step back from all your responsibilities, but we hope this motivates you to seek out a new experience or just kick back and get some rest. You deserve it, and you and your business will both benefit. It’s a win-win!
